Sanwa JLF Joystick Product Codes Explained
There is often some confusion with the product codes for Sanwa joysticks and we often get asked to explain/help with the different codes. To try and explain the product codes, please see below. We hope this information helps and makes the different models of joystick easier to understand.
JLF-TP-8YT
The most popular model with flat mounting plate attached.
JLF-TP-8Y
Same joystick as the JLF-TP-8YT but with the flat mounting plate removed
JLF-TP-8S
Same Joystick as the JLF-TP-8YT but with a JLF-P-1S stepped mounting plate attached
JLF-TM-8T
Same Joystick as the JLF-TP-8YT but with 4 x MS-0-3 microswitches with 4.8mm terminals.
JLF-CD Shaft Cover Set
By adding a black shaft cover set to the above models adds -SK to the end of the product code. For example: a JLF-TP-8YT fitted with a black shaft cover set becomes a JLF-TP-8YT-SK.
Wiring Info
This joystick is fitted with 4 x Microswitches with 4.8mm terminals.
Each microswitch will require 1 x 4.8mm crimped wire for ground connection and 1 x 4.8mm crimped wire for signal connection.
Pre-crimped wires and daisy chain ground harness can be purchased separately here: Wires & Cables

Joystick
Great price, fast delivery and very helpful staff when I had a problem! Recommend 10/10

Excellent quality sticks
Used some cheap zapp sticks until I tried these beauties. More expensive yes but you get what you pay for. Awesome quality, great for fighter games and executing those combos. Sturdy, responsive and just a purchase you won't regret. Highly recommended from someone who has spent hours and hours playing on arcade machines since the 80's!!

Arcade world service
Can't recommend arcade world enough. Bought a lot from them over the years, they've even made custom orders for me from Japan. Great customer service and an all round decent bunch of people.

Excellent joystick.
As we all know Sanwa makes great products and with this joystick you can't go wrong either.
Personaly I like this joystick with a 2lb tension spring, so if you can spare £ 0,99 test it out and judge yourself.
When playing 4 and 8-way games on one cabinet and you don't want to swap the restrictor every time, than use a GT-Y restrictor to play 8 way games the best and 4-way games almost as good as with a restrictor set to 4-way mode. -
Fantastic joystick, perfect for shmups and fighters
The action is light and smooth, and it feels great for 8-way control. If you're playing something like Donkey Kong or Pengo that require fast and accurate 4-way control, then this is not the best choice, as it's much too easy to hit a diagonal. Of course, there is a separate plate to make it a 4-way controller, but not many people will be swapping frequently between the two.
It's a great joystick though, and a thousand times better than the Zippee one I had installed previously. -
Don't scrimp on these
Building an arcade machine i scrimped the first time round on the joysticks. Playing SFII was very difficult diagonals were hard to hit. This Joystick is another level, diagonals are there when needed and combos are much easier to pull off. Highly recommend this joystick! Especially with the Sanwa GT-Y Octagonal Gate.

Quality as expected
Went for these to play all games but mostly for fighters. The quality is what I've come to expect from Sanwa products - that is top notch. These lost a star however because they aren't suitable for Street Fighter due to it's stringent diagonals requirement. Upgraded with TP-MA boards (thank you Andy you are a legend) resolved this. Lesson learned - if you're playing particular games contact Arcade World UK for assistance and they'll make sure you have the correct kit!

Very good
ok I did something silly, I thought a cheap joystick would be fine on my home built arcade. It's only up,down, left and right, right? Why bother spending this much on a joystick? Having tried to play games on a cheap joystick your realise that there is a natural play were UP is not always 12 O'clock - it moves to 4 and then 5 minutes past then clock until you have to twist the handle back and they can be slow and clunky and generally spoil gameplay. So I spent a bit more and got this and what a difference!! I should have bought this from the start! It 'feels' professional -a gentle click not a gear-change! it is true- you really do get what you pay for! so much more professional. Just buy it!
