Cheap and cheerful...
I bought a pair of these to play Assault on MAME. They are a bit clunky and clicky and certainly don't feel as nice as more expensive joysticks such as the ServoStiks etc. However, they work as expected and run well. I had to router out around 5 mm of wood underneath my 18mm MDF control panel to fit these as there's not enough clearance if you keep the full thickness of wood.

Buttons and Wires
This is a good joystick if you're on a tight budget and want to play classic arcade games without resorting to separate buttons and sticks (which can get very expensive). The buttons are very solid (using V4 microswitches, apparently) and are wired up individually, giving you the choice to have them perform separate or identical functions depending on the game in question. The colours of the three wires emerging from the cord at the end of the joystick vary from stick to stick - some will have red, yellow and green, while others (like mine) will have black, white and red. In any case, the wiring below should help: Ground - Green/black Top button - Yellow/white Trigger - Red (always) The only downside is that the joystick handle needs to be disassembled in order to be mounted/dismounted, but it's easy to reassemble after a few minutes of tinkering.
